About the Club
The Canberra Alpine Club was established in 1934, as a Canberra based club promoting snow sport and other alpine activities. The Club is renowned for its friendly atmosphere and club spirit, and has members of all ages and levels of skiing ability, and from all walks of life.
The Club has two magnificent lodges. One is on the shores of Lake Jindabyne, within easy walking distance of the Jindabyne shopping centre. The other nestles on the slopes of Perisher adjacent to the Telemark lift.
The lodges offer a mixture of twin and family rooms, some with en suite bathrooms. Both lodges have modern kitchens, spacious living and dining areas, and decks with extensive views.
You’ll be surprised at how inexpensive it is to join our Club and use the facilities. In winter, members pay only $40 per night to stay in our Perisher lodge and $20 per night to stay in our Jindabyne lodge.
Club members participate in all types of snow sports; alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and snowboarding are all popular. Bushwalking and other outdoor activities are also regularly organised.
Various social events are held each year, many of which are family oriented. The large living areas in the Club lodges enable members and guests to relax and meet others staying at the lodges.
The Club also offers members the opportunity to improve their skiing ability through clinics and other development programs. The Club regularly competes in regional and national competition.
The Club newsletter, Frozen Acres, is published on a monthly basis to keep members fully informed of activities.
Membership
Becoming a member of the Canberra Alpine Club is a three-stage process.
The first step is to find two Club members who are willing to act as your sponsors. If you do not know any Club members, we can arrange for you to be introduced. When you apply for membership, one-third of the total entrance fee is payable. When your application is accepted, you join our waiting list.
The application form is available in PDF format here.
To advance to the next stage, you must gain points by attending Club activities. Once you have earned sufficient points, and when there are vacancies available, provisional membership may be offered and a further third of the entrance fee is payable.
Provisional membership lasts for 6 to 12 months. During this time you can have a good look at the Club (and vice versa) and decide whether we are the sort of Club you really want to join. When you are offered full membership, the last instalment of the entrance fee is payable.
Junior and Youth memberships are also available, with similar but not identical entry processes.
The info kit provides more details on the entry process.
